Lewis and Clark State ParkThe Corps of Discovery came upon a lake on the Fourth of July in 1804 described by William Clark to have large numbers of fish and waterfowl. Lewis and Clark Lake, as it is now known, resides next to Lewis and Clark State Park of Rushmore, MO. Bird watching is spectacular, here; geese, a variety of ducks, great blue herons, and snowy egrets are all regular visitors to the lake. Casting lines along the peaceful dream of a shoreline makes fishing another favorite activity for vacationers. Carp, buffalo and channel catfish are some of the catches one can expect from Lewis and Clark Lake. The park also provides a boat ramp for those who wish to leave their land-legs behind. Furthermore, the extensive sand beach along the shore accommodates for swimming and sunbathing. When staying overnight, both basic and electric camp sites are available featuring grills, tables, and small shelters. For an overdue relaxing vacation, do not miss this wonderful gem along the Lewis and Clark trail! |
