Lake Manawa State ParkLake Manawa State Park is one of the best vacation spots for outdoor recreation in the Omaha/Council Bluffs area. The park stretches 1,529 acres around the 772 acre Lake Manawa, which is an oxbow lake, formed by a flood in 1881. “Manawa” translates as “peace and comfort”. Lake Manawa is the favorite boating spot in the region and boat motors of any size are allowed on the lake. Anglers love the great catches of crappies, bluegill and catfish throughout the year. Sizable populations of larger bass and walleye can also be found here. Hiking and bicycling are often enjoyed along the shoreline, and a paved bike trail leads to other larger trail systems. Swimmers and sunbathers are fully catered to with a modern beach facility. 72 campsite units along with modern shower and rest room facilities are available at the Lake Manawa State Park campground, of which 37 are equipped with electric hook-ups. Picnicking is a favorite sport here and shelters are scattered all around the lake for everyone to enjoy. |
