Waubonsie State Park

Waubonsie State Park, named for Chief Waubonsie of the Pottawattamie tribe, is a great site along the Lewis and Clark trail for hikers and equestrian enthusiasts alike. The park hosts 16 primitive campsites as well as 24 more with electrical hook-ups, shower, and restroom facilities. This park is one-of-a-kind in its distinguished hospitality to equestrian activities. The equestrian campground is made up of 32 campsites with primitive facilities. Waubonsie State Park is located in Hamburg, Iowa, where the “Loess Hills” are found. This unique landform, similar to the badlands in appearances and plant life, is found only in this area near the Missouri River or across the world in China. The 7 miles of foot trails and 8 miles of equestrian trails are exceptional to the senses. They bring their travelers through lands that have hardly been touched since the original purchase of Waubonsie State Park in 1926. These awe-inspiring gorges, valleys, and ridges can be viewed from the scenic open picnic shelter.
