Loess Hills Wildlife AreaThe interesting terrain of the Loess Hills Wildlife Area was created by thick deposits of coarse windblown silt from thousands of years ago. The Loess hills are a unique landform that offers specialized habitats for a variety of plant and wildlife species, as well as unique topography and exceptional scenery. Along the top of the bluffs is a narrow band of rough terrain covered with ragged and unkempt plants. The geological processes that occurred many years ago are evident in the spectacular formations of the hills and the area is known for its scenic views and diverse plants and wildlife. Portions of the Loess Hills are considered national landmark sites and the Loess Hills Wildlife Area, as well as the Loess Hills Nature Preserve, are two areas that are part of the national landmark designation. |
