Elk Country Visitor CenterFor all things elk, come to this Montana museum devoted to the majestic animal. View the collection of trophy elk mounts, hear the sound of an elk bugle, feel the weight of elk antlers. The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, which runs the Elk County Visitor Center in Missoula, works to ensure the future of elk, other wildlife and their habitats by educating the public through interactive and rotating exhibits, conservation films and videos. The museum also features a Lewis and Clark exhibit. Be sure to stop in the gift shop for some wildlife art. A wooded nature trail winds its way around the 22-acre property, providing a great opportunity to see not only elk, but white-tailed deer, turkeys, bald eagles, owls and other wildlife. One of the more offbeat and interesting attractions in Missoula is the Smokejumper Visitor Center, where you can learn how these daring aerial firefighters suit up, pack their parachutes and fly into the wilderness to fight wildfires. |
