Sluice Boxes State Park

Do remains of historic cabins, a railroad, and mines sound intriguing for a vacation or day trip? Sluice Boxes State Park is just eight miles south of Belt, Montana. The park’s rugged terrain has been targeted by a variety of people interested in mining its precious metals and for transportation development. The Barker mines are a quite interesting historic attraction. The Montana Central Railroad merges with a hiking trail used along the Sluice Boxes Geology Field Trip & Hike. The trail starts from the bridge near the mouth of Logging Creek. The hike continues for seven miles through a tunnel, over a trestle, back and forth across Belt Creek more than a dozen times, and finally coming to its end near the parking area at Riceville. Visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, backcountry camping, picnicking, hiking, and more here at Sluice Boxes State Park. Don’t forget to bring a camera so that you can personally document this incredible place!
