First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park

First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park is an exciting historical site in Montana right near the town of Great Falls. Its 1,481 acres span an incredible landscape that is rich with wildlife and set before the Rocky Mountain Front. The prehistoric Native Americans traditionally hunted buffalo by stampeding the herds over the edge of cliffs, and held consequent celebrations and feasts. First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park is one of the largest buffalo jump sites of its kind known to the world. The visitor center and museum offer exhibits highlighting the park’s unique history. There is a three mile hiking trail available to walk the land and see the panoramic views. While exploring the area, be sure to pay a visit to the prairie dog towns to watch these funny little creatures as they scurry in and out of their underground lairs.
