Travelers' Rest State Park

Travelers’ Rest State Park is an ideal scenic stopover located about 8 miles south by southwest from Missoula, MT. The park’s 41 acres span grassy fields, magnificent trees, and pristine waters under Montana’s big skies. Visitors will love spreading out their blankets to loll around and watch the clouds traverse the vast blue canvas above this historical resting area. Lewis and Clark camped here with the Corps of Discovery twice during their epic journey in 1805 and 1806. The summer of 2002 proved to be quite a milestone in archeology when actual physical evidence of their latrine and central fire was found on the park’s property. Travelers’ Rest State Park has been a campground and crossroads for generations of Native Americans, notably by the Salish. Visitors can enjoy fishing, picnicking, hiking, and wildlife observation during their day trip to the park. There is no better place to stop for historical experience and outdoors recreation while following the Lewis and Clark Trail.
