Hat Rock State ParkOn the south shore of Lake Wallula, just after the McNary Dam on the Columbia River, Hat Rock State Park offers a beautiful outdoor experience for daytime visitors. The park is nine miles east of Umatilla in Oregon. Lewis and Clark noted Hat Rock as the first distinct landmark of the Corps of Discovery expedition along the Columbia. Most of the other landmark sites along the Columbia River portion of the Lewis and Clark trail are now underwater. Hat Rock State Park is a mix of rolling hills peppered with sagebrush, basalt rock outcroppings, and desert oasis. There is a boat ramp that accesses the lake for boating, with plenty of opportunities for walleye, sturgeon and rainbow trout fishing. Water sports including water skiing, jet skiing, and more are all popular attractions to this unique historical site. Hat Rock State Park provides a range of activities for the whole family - take the kids swimming or pick up a volleyball game in the sand! |
