Columbia Hills State Park

Columbia Hills State Park, located on the Columbia River in Klickitat County of Washington, spreads out its 3,338 acres and 7,500 feet of freshwater shoreline for historical and natural admiration. Horsethief Butte is a striking figure in the skyline over the 90 acre Horsethief Lake (formed by flooding of the Dalles Dam reservoir). The Horsethief Lake area is a National Historic Site. Native American pictographs and petroglyphs can be found in the park, and some are of the oldest in the Northwest. Maryhill Museum of Art and the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center both provide exhibitions of artifacts linked with local Native American tribes. Columbia Hills State Park features 12.4 miles of hiking trails and huge grassy lawns perfect for croquet, soccer, and other lawn games. Windsurfing is popular here, since the waters offer high-winds without the high-risks of river currents and barge traffic. Two boat ramps are provided and motorized boats are permitted. Campgrounds provide for extended stay.
