Saddle Mountain State Natural Area

Saddle Mountain State Natural Area doesn’t take up a lot of room on the map, but it sure packs a punch! Located 8 miles north and east of Necanicum Junction in the state of Oregon, the park offers a steep hike up to an open rocky summit. Just two and a half miles lie between the parking lot and the top of Saddle Mountain. The trail opens up to lead its rugged way through the rich old-growth forest at the base of the mountain. Continuing on, the trek features displays of wildflowers dappling the landscape, whose array of species may only exist at specific elevations. There are ten primitive camp sites at the trailhead and RV camping can be done in the parking area. Visitors to Saddle Mountain State Natural Area ought to prepare for a change in temperature as they climb to the summit, and should also wear sturdy hiking shoes for the rugged terrain. Once at the top, the view is a jaw-dropping marvel of scenery.
