Fort Columbia State ParkFort Columbia State Park is a well-preserved military site that defended the Columbia River from 1896 to 1947. Here, in Chinook, WA, the park is situated where it overlooks the beautiful Columbia River estuary. The Chinook Indians and their famous Chief Comcomly once called this area home. With 6,400 feet of freshwater shoreline along the Columbia River, Fort Columbia State Park supports magnificent opportunities to picnic along this renowned waterway. The interpretive center and interpretive trail offer information about the fort, as well as the area’s early exploration and settlements. Twelve historic wood-frame buildings are left intact at Fort Columbia State Park. Two of these are available for vacation rental. The Commanding Officer’s House is furnished to reflect its times. Visitors can stop by the observation station or go hiking on five miles of trail through the enveloping forest.
