Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge

The Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge is situated within the Columbia River floodplain in the state of Washington. It is located not far from the Portland –Vancouver metropolitan area. The refuge includes over 5,000 acres of grasslands, woodlands and marshes. The refuge is home to mallards, great blue herons and red-tailed hawks year round, as well as sandhill cranes, shorebirds, Canada geese, wintering waterfowl, and a large variety of songbirds that make the refuge home during the spring and fall migrations or the winter months. There are also black-tailed deer, coyote, beaver, skunk, river otter, and brush rabbits that can be seen in the area. There is an auto tour, guided birding hikes, and a hiking trail. Viewing the surrounding scenery and the spectacular waterfowl and birds is the highlight of a visit to the area.
