Pictograph Cave State ParkOne of Montana’s most important National Historic Landmarks is located just five miles south of Billings at Pictograph Cave State Park. The rock paintings, a.k.a. pictographs, are still visible in Pictograph Cave. Two more caves are within the park’s property and more than 30,000 artifacts have been identified here. A new visitor center is scheduled to open in 2009 featuring a gift shop, classrooms, and interpretive displays about Montana’s first archaeological excavations. Aside from the historical attractions of Pictograph Cave State Park, visitors can enjoy picnicking or bicycling and hiking throughout the beautiful natural environment. Photographers often come here to snap shots of the park’s remarkable landscape and wildlife. Pictograph Cave State Park is a perfect day-time getaway for the whole family! |
