UL Bend National Wildlife Refuge

The UL Bend National Wildlife Refuge is part of the enormous Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge that spans 125 miles along the Missouri River in Montana. The UL Bend refuge contains 20,000 acres within the over one million acres covered by the Charles M. Russell NWR. The area is home to a myriad of wildlife including mule deer, elk, bighorn sheep, sage and sharp tailed grouse, bald eagles and more. The wilderness within UL Bend NWR was established primarily to protect wetland areas for waterfowl and other migratory birds. Within the refuge there are opportunities for viewing and photographing wildlife, hiking, horseback riding, camping, fishing and hunting. The area is most notably a reintroduction site for the endangered population of the black-footed ferret.
