National Bison Range Wildlife RefugeThe National Bison Range Wildlife Refuge is one of the oldest wildlife refuges in the nation and is located in the Mountain Prairie Region of Montana. The refuge consists of 18,500 acres of forests, Palouse prairie, wetlands and streams and was established primarily to support a population of American bison. The area is also home to white-tailed and mule deer, elk, pronghorn antelope, black bear, bighorn sheep, ground squirrels and over 200 species of birds. The open grasslands provide ample opportunities for visitors to enjoy wildlife observation as well as photography. There is also a visitor center, bookstore, picnic area and restrooms. There are auto tour roads and a limited number of hiking trails available for viewing wildlife. |
