West Bend Recreation Area

West Bend Recreation Area in Pierre, SD is located on the famous Lewis and Clark Trail, and there are several outdoor activities available as well as nearby historical sites. The protected marina provides easy access by sheltering boat launching from the wind. Some of the best fishing for walleye and small mouth bass is found here due to the water’s cool temperatures and stable levels. For those interested in Native American culture, there are local powwows, or wacipis, held at American Indian reservations within the vicinity. There are 124 shady camp sites (110 with electric hook-ups and one is wheelchair accessible) with showers and drinking water. Four additional camping cabins are available that accommodate four people each and RV campers will find the campground quite suitable for their stay. There is also a playground and swimming beach, making West Bend Recreation Area a place for the whole family to enjoy!
