Adams Homestead and Nature PreserveAn impressive 1,500 acres of historic significance and wild makes the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve of McCook Lake, SD a great place to spend the day. The preserve offers more than ten miles of trails for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing. Guided golf cart tours are provided for those with physical limitations. With wildlife viewing blinds and more than one hundred species of birds featured here, bird watchers and casual observers alike will love the song and dance of this beautiful place. Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve is home to a series of restored historical buildings with well-kept original furnishings including Lamont Country Schoolhouse, Stavenger Lutheran Church, the Shay-Adams Home, and the Brusseau log cabin. The visitor center adds to the homestead’s historical experience through its dynamic interpretive displays and also features the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
