Cranberry Bend Unit, Big Muddy National Wildlife Refuge

Split between Saline County and Lafayette County in Missouri is the Cranberry Bend Unit of the Big Muddy National Wildlife Refuge. The area consists of a small island of floodplain forest within a side channel of the Missouri River, as well as a larger parcel of land that is mostly open grassland and floodplain forests. There is some farming on the larger parcel of land. The only amenities at this unit are a small information kiosk located near the parking areas. Visitors can enjoy hiking, exploring, fishing and hunting.
