Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive CenterThe Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center invites visitors to travel back in time and spend a day with the explorers along the Missouri riverfront in Iowa. Dozens of interactive devices make it all possible. The expedition comes to life with animatronic mannequins, map-making tools, hand-painted murals and replicas of military equipment and Indian artifacts. On the grounds of the center, atop one of the nation’s highest flagpoles, a replica of an American flag with 15 stars and 15 stripes waves in the breeze. The U.S. flag has been changed many times over the years, but this particular design – the model for the song The Star-Spangled Banner – is featured because it’s the one Lewis and Clark carried on their expedition. Another outdoor favorite is the larger-than-life statue of three adventurers looking out over the Missouri River. Two of the figures cast in bronze are the famed explorers Lewis and Clark; the third is their canine companion – a Newfoundland named Seaman. |
